Is microsoft so in need of money they would make Windows XP without WinWord
and require everyone to buy it for more money. Seriously, who was the
brainiack who came up with that idea.

What do you think MS does for a living? But in any case, 80 percent of
Windows users do NOT use Word.

Jezebel,

Are you certain about that? In my corner of the world, 90% of Windows
users use Word. It's the number one reason most people I know have
computers in the first place, although in the past 5-10 years, email
and the Internet have moved very close to number 2.

P.S., "are", I have installed programs in Windows 3.1, 95, 2000, and
XP (skipped 98, Me, and something else). AFAIK Windows has *never*
been sold together with Word, but always separately. One exception:
On my daughter's laptop, we had the option of ordering Office XP, but
Word 2000 came installed with it. That was an option from the computer
maker, not from MS.
