Microsoft Office Document Imagewriter changed behavior

Greetings,

I downloaded the latest round of patches this weekend and installed them
on several computers.

Now, all of a sudden, the only way my users can print to the Microsoft
Office Document Imagewriter is if they select it as their default
printer. Normally, they kept their regular laser printer as the default
printer and could print to the .mdi format by selecting the Microsoft
Office Document Imagewriter (MDOI) from the print dialog.

I spent much of yesterday wrestling with this problem and made an
interesting finding:

it only happens if the user is NOT administrator level. If their
security status is "User" or "PowerUser", MDOI will fail. If they are an
administrator, MDOI works as expected.

I'm pretty sure this has to do with some patch. Because all the machines
that were patched developed the symptom. The other thing I noticed was
that instead of the default format being ".mdi", the MDOI suddenly reset
so that ".tif" was the default format.

But I'm stumped as to how to give my users the right privileges to allow
them to use the MDOI like they did before.

Anyone have any suggestions? Know which patch caused this problem?

TIA,

Hi Doug,

Are the user / profile names and the computer names the same by any chance?

I'm not sure I follow you... but, no. The user names are different; the
machines are different.

But I can be at any one machine, log on as a "User"-level user and MODI
will not work. I can log on at the same machine as the
administrator-level user and MODI works normally.
