Moving a Long Document to another computer

I have a 500 page manuscript in Word 2007, which I have been working on using
a desktop computer. I use styles, macros, auto text entries, and a special
template. There is a building block file as well as many additions to the
dictionary. I want to work on this manuscript while I am traveling. Would
anyone be willing to enumerate for me the steps to transfer everything I need
to the laptop so that it will work just as it has on my desktop?E.g. do I
need to redirect the file to the new templat/building block locations? How
about the dictionary? Is that Custom.dic? Help would be greatly appreciated.

It all depends!

At a minimum, you need the Document and the Template - if they are put in
the same Folder, it doesn't then matter where that Folder is.

Styles, Autotext entries, Building Blocks, and Macros may be in one (or
more) of several places - the Document itself, your special Template, your
Normal template, an AddIn or another Global template, a special Building
Block Template. You need to know, or find out, where they all are in order
to be sure you have all the bits.

You can copy your Normal Template if you wish, but there may be other
effects (it depends on what yoiu have customised on each of the machines).
If you have any AddIns or Global Temlates (look on the Office Button > Word
Options > Add Ins tab) that are different on the two machines, you may need
to copy and/or install the missing ones on your laptop. If you are using
custom Building Block files, you will need to copy them (from/to somewhere
in or under %AppData%\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks). If you are using
custom Dictionaries (see Office Button > Word Options > Proofng tab), you
will also need to copy these (if you need the spell check on the move - you
may be able to live without it and check on your return).

This may be trivial, or it may end up being quite involved - it all depends
on how complex your set up is to begin with.

It's worth noting that, if you are in the habit of making customizations,
any you make on the laptop will need duplicating on the desktop when you
return.
