ms project alloc summary issues

MarkP

I am trying to create reporting out of a central resource pool.

In the Resource View I have been able to get everything sorted nicely
(Special thanks to JulieS @ project.mvps.org/).

As of now, I have Group By
--- Project
--- Person
-----Task

Setting the Format / Details / Percent Allocation I can now see who is 100%
Allocated across time at a task level.

My problem is at the Person Summary Level.
1) If the Person has only ONE TASK, the Summary for that person is visible
ie: Task shows 75% Allocation, Person Summary shows 75% Allocation
2) If the Person has MORE THAN ONE TASK, the Person Summary for that person
does not show
ie: Task shows 75% Allocation, Person Summary shows blank

Is this a bug ? or am I doing something wrong?

Additional facts:
--- Using MS Project 2007
--- If I use Work instead of Percent Allocation, Person Summary always shows
correct value.

Thanks.

You may need to insert a formula in a spare field to calculate it for you. I
have noticed similar behavior on certain fields when using customized
groupings. The behavior is evident in P2003 as well. Do not know if it's a
bug or not... but it is certainly related to a custom grouping summary.

Jim,

Thanks, but...

How do I add custom field info to the Details of the Resource Usage view?

(This is the info on the right side of the screen)

Hi Mark,

I can also reproduce what you report -- the summary row for
resources does not calculate the percent allocation where there is
more than one assignment. I know it likely doesn't help, but I see
the same issue in a simple project file (no resource pool).

You cannot create a custom time-phase field added to the right side
of the view.

It appears that many of the timephased fields do not calculate at
grouping rows. For example, the field "Remaining Availability" does
not calculate in a grouped view based upon Resource Usage either. I
was going to suggest that field as a work around :-(

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie,

Thanks !

How do I display a custom field in the time phased panel (ie right side) of
the Resource Usage screen ?

Hi Mark,

Short answer -- you can't. None of the custom fields are timephased
as Project doesn't know the time dimension for custom fields.

Julie,

Bummer :(

Sooooo, my next idea is to export the data to Access or Excel and summarize
it myself.

Any idea how to export just the current Resource Usage view data ?
- 10 columns on left
- Some time phased data on the right

When I try Save As Excel, I see way too many details. Is there some
mapping documentation that will show me how to pull out just:
- 5 standard resource fields
- 5 custom fields
- Percent allocation over some time phase

HUGE THANKS for your help !

- Mark
