MS Project launches with Gantt starting with odd date

Mr Mike

Regarding MS - Project 2003 SP2. When I open a project file the Gantt
display defaults to a date over two years ago.

All tasks start after 5/10/07.
The project information has a start date of 5/10/07.
File properties all are as expected.

But the Gantt starts up from 11/28/2004.

Is there somewhere else that could be responsible. I've checked all
the options and can't see anything.

Thanks to all who try to answer this one!

Mr Mike,
Display the Project Summary Task (Tools/Options/View - Project summary
task option). Does it show a start on 11/28/04? If so, I suspect a rogue
task exists that you probably don't even know about. One way to ferret
it out is to sort the file by the Unique ID field. Rogue tasks will show
up at the bottom of the sort where they can easily be deleted.

Just on another hunch, do you have calculation set for automatic?

Other possibilities include links from outside the project file. Do you
have external predecessors into this file?

John, thanks for trying. The summary task show the correct dates. If
I sort by Unique ID, nothing odd shows up either. One interesting
thing, if i click the horizonal scroll bar, I jump 2.5 years to the
project start date. It's like something is making the Gantt display
start on a fixed date other that the date in the project file.

Mr Mike,
Sorry those things didn't pan out. A question I forgot to ask. Doesn't
this only occur with this one file?

Here's something you can try. Select a task whose start date is near or
on the Project Start Date and then do a Save As (i.e. overwrite the
existing file).

Thanks for the try. Nothing has seemed to correct the problem. I do
know it has to do only with this file. Any more ideas?

Mr. Mike,
Even though this only occurs with the one file, It doesn't sound like
file corruption, but I could be wrong. If you don't mind sending me the
file I could take a look at it when I get some time.
