New tasks won't start on the current date

I have the options under tools set to start new tasks on the current date,
yet when I enter new tasks they start on the project start date.

Larry,
The only things that come to mind is either you set the option for one
particular project and you are entering new tasks in a different project
and assuming the option is universal (it is not), or the Project Start
Date is after the current date.
