Office 2003 trial edition has corrupted office 97 access

Just bought a new compter with a trail edition of office 2003.

Now, I can't click on files and open them with Word without Office 2003
trying to install. I have reset the "open with" link to Office Pro 97,
to no effect.

Anyone else had this problem?

You should have uninstalled Office2003 trial prior to installing Office97
Your installation is likely corrupt
Uninstall 2003 then repair office97
If you use multiple versions of office you should install earliest version,
update, prior to installing later version

Thanks - that was my first thought, but Office 2003 does not show up as
an uninstallable component, because it isn't installed since the trial
period has expired...so I'm in a Catch 22 type netherworld with this
one. Any other ideas?

Unless you specifically uninstalled O2003 its still there. It doesnt
uninstall when the trial expires.
It is installed in ............Microsoft Office\Office11 folder
And should be shown in Add/Remove Software as Microsoft Office 2003
