Office Documents open slow in my profile

Aaron

This is a problem that I have been aware of for years and never found a fix.
Please help!

I have MS Office XP installed on my PC (I have also seen this happen with
Office '97 and 2000). If I click on the icon to start the program (word,
excel, etc.) the program pops right up. If I then go to Open, browse for my
document, find it, then click Open, the document opens right up. HOWEVER, if
I simply double click on the document icon, it takes over a minute to open.
This is a small document (<50k) and it resides locally on the desktop.

This is only true when working in my profile. If I log in as administrator
(or any other profile), Office functions normally. I can fix the problem by
recreating my profile, but I want to know what causes this and if there is
another fix besides recreating profile.

Thanks!

I have run into this before too. I have Windows 2000 and Office XP. While
looking at other tech sites, they mention about deleting a folder c:\doc &
settings\profile\application data\microsoft\office\recent.

I did that but it didn't make a difference.

I also read how NAV can cause this behavior. When I removed NAV the problem
wasn't resolved. It seems to be related to the profile.
