Whether it is a word document, excel spreadsheet, or powerpoint presentation,
if I double click on a file they take about 1 minute to open. The files are
saved on the hard drive, so it isn't a networking issue. Also, if I have
word (or excel, powerpoint) already open and open the document from the
file/open menu, the file opens up immediately.
Further more, this only happens in my profile (I have admin rights). If I
log in as a domain admin or local admin and double click on a file they open
immediately. I can delete my profile and recreate it, and then things work
fine for a month or so. But eventually things start slowing down again.
I have office XP and windows 2000. I have tried deleting the folder
c:\documents and settings\profile\application data\microsoft\office\recent
but that doesn't solve the problem. I have also added a registry value
NoRecentDocsHistory (1) to the
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer to no avail.
