An INI file is a text file that contains your default settings.
Windows no longer uses INI files, as the Registry now replaced the use
of most INI files for holding your settings. But 97 is an old version
that apparently was one that used an INI on the old operating
systems...or the scanner driver is old and doesn't know how to use the
Registry.

I would suggest you try reinstalling Office.

Good luck...
