It sounds like the file association does not include the /n switch which will suppress a new document.

You can easily recreate the file associations for Word by going to Start/Run and run:

winword/ r

Note the space before the forward slash.

Hi thanks for ur mail but it doesn't help to solve my problem.I have a VB application which adds 2 custom dictionary files to word 2000.After installing the VB application when u open a word doc it opens a blank document too. This happens in all the machienes.any idea why this happens.. ?

Sounds like a mistake in the VB application: eg, your VB app is opening Word
(hidden, presumably) and installing the dictionary files. The blank document
is the default start-up new document, same as you get if you start Word
directly. That instance of Word remains live, but hidden. (You can check for
it by displaying the Task Manager and checking the Processes list.) Then
when you open a document, Windows finds the existing instance of Word --
with the blank document already open -- and makes it visible.

In that case, check if you have any Auto macros running, in normal.dot or an
add-in.

I've never heard of *ANYONE* getting a reply from Microsoft on this kind of
issue.

Infact i reinstalled ms office and tried gain..the same prob..I really have no clue why this happens..

Reinstalling Word has no effect on any templates or add-ins you have
installed. If the problem is an Auto macro, as suggested, you need to find
it and fix it. Reinstalling Word won't do that. Try starting Word with the
/a switch and see if the problem disappears.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?amludQ==?=,
Now i uninstalled the application and no instance of word is running.I removed all the
custom dictionaries. But still when i open any doc file it opens a blank document.this is how Word ALWAYS works, by default. Since version 1.0. If you want Word to behave
differently, you have to change something, such as including a startup switch with the
Word icon as was suggested previously.

Cindy, on my reading of "But still when i open any doc file it opens a blank
document." the OP is saying he/she gets both the document opened AND a blank
document.
