opening word attachments

when trying to open a word document attached to an incoming email i get a error message notifiying me that an error has been enountered and the application will close down. the error is described as "AppVer:8.0.0.4016 ModName:winword.exe" could anyone please enlighten me how to solve this problem? I use office 97 under windows xp home .

Hi David,

If Office 97 isn't patched to at least SR-2 then that is my first suggestion. There were a *lot* of bugs in Word corrected in both the SR-1 and SR-2 patches.

Save the attachment to your hard drive and then open it.
