Outlook 2007 Beta 2 / Windows Desktop Search now missing from my computer

R

RyeTronics

I installed the Office 2007 Beta 2 today, and ran the update to Windows
Desktop so it would sync with Outlook 2007. With the update installed,
Windows Desktop is now missing from my computer and I can't seem to
find a way to launch it now. It's gone from the taskbar, from the
Start Menu and there is no .exe in it's Program Files/Windows Desktop
folder.

Any ideas what happened and how I can remedy it? Thanks.

I believe the Windows Desktop Search can be accessed through the Control
Panel - Indexing Options. However, there is not much options you can change
- I've tried.

After you install WDS, it automatically indexes a few folders.

As the information in the WDS beta download states - it doesn't have a UI in
this build.

Same story as others (upgraded to WDS 3), but I can not search any of my
desktop.. I get the "quick search" for e-mail searches but no docs, PPTs, PDF
etc. I tried to add the icon for "desktop search" from the "customize" tool
bars, but it will not add. I suspect I'm missed a componet but I've installed
the complete suite..

Thanks for all of your help..

it's more likely a beta issue - WDS is a beta and not nearly complete.

Do I need to install sharepoint server? (I haven't done so yet?!) Why does
it seem other users of outlook 2007 seem (?) to be searching & retreiving
their docs (similiar to wds 2.0.6 capabilities) or am I reading this
incorrectly..
