Outlook Contacts Folder Question

I access my work email account from both my work laptop ao
nd my home computer using VPN. My work email is accessed
through a MS Exchange server. Why are my Contacts folder
for my work available when I log onto the account through
my home computer. The contacts available are those which
are resident on my home machine.
