outlook NOT suggesting addressees....

Chris Harrison

I have two uses with opposite problems, one answer I found
searching old threads and one I can't. The one I can't
find is this:
When the user (there are several, either with Outlook 2000
on Windows 2000 or Outlook 2003 on Windows XP) begins
typing a name in the "To" field of a new message Outlook
does NOT suggest names either from the contacts list or
recently typed addresses, though it does resolve from
Contacts a few seconds after the complete name is typed.

The one I did find was a solution for users who wanted to
remove names from the suggestion list...Thanks for that
one!

For starters, only Outlook 2002 and 2003 have this feature.
Now, what part of your question still remains?

How much of this mechanism does outlook express contain? The cached list,
or the full address book lookup?
I have a friend who has moved (at my suggestion) from OE to Outlook 2003,
and he's complaining that the names fields are not autocompleting. I'm
trying to avoid creating a new profile (fear of the unknown).

I've never used OE.
Autocomplete will not function in Outlook until a cache has been populated
by sending messages.
