Outlook will not close

I am having a problem with Outlook 2003. It will not
close properly. The Outlook icon in the notification
area says it is trying to contact the exchange server.
It also says I can cancel this from the menu, but the
menu will not show because I get this message
saying "Outlook is not responding. If you use an Exchange
account......."

Can anyone help?
