path for 'save as'

B

BorisS

when I am in an app and want to save to a Groove workspace, the only way I've
figured out so far is to save the file locally, then from within Groove to
"add" the file from that local spot, or copy paste from that local spot to
the groove window. I have to imagine there is a way to have a path to which I
can go in the "save as" dialogue, which will point me to the Groove tree
structure, and to which I can then save files directly. No?

Thx.

Hello Boris,

A simple "save as..." is not the way to do this, but you may use the
"fileshare workspace" feature.
Create a "filesharing" workspace for a specific directory on your computer,
and use the "save as..." feature to save documents into this directory. Now
the synchronization with other members of your filesharing workspace takes
place.

hope this helps
kind regards

Boris -

You can drag and drop from Explorer into Groove Files.

If your app can open files from the command line (can you double click a
data file in Explorer and have the app load it?), then it should be able
to do the same thing from within Groove.

Hope this helps.

Mark, thanks again for responding. The trick is not opening and then
saving/closing back to Groove. The thing I'm looking for is the following
situation...start a new doc, need to save it...currently have to save it
somewhere, then copy-cut/paste it to the groove window. Now I understand I
can have a shared directory, but I need a Sharepoint synch of the files as
well, and as far as I can tell (my other question, which was going to respond
to previous reply from Ruediger), I have to use Sharepoint tool for that. So
I can have a directory share tool for the stuff that only needs to reside on
my computer and the ones with which I synch. But then if I want this
workspace to live online somewhere and get backed up, I have to have a
sharepoint tool. Am I mistaken, or is there a way to get the sharepoint
synching with folders which are shared out from local storage?

Ruediger, excellent suggestion, however as I just noted to Mark, my issue is
that I both need to have the local-style (treated like a regular directory,
only happens to allow others in) feel, but with Sharepoint synchronization
(for backup). And as I can see, there is one distinct tool for each of these
tasks. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Thx.
