Physical % complete field

Hi Guys,

Want to know whether Physical % Complete values (entered manually) for
activities would get rolled up to summary tasks are not.

We want to use this field for projecting the actual % if work complete and
thus want to have these values rolled up to summary tasks ultimately to the
overall project summary.

Yes, absolutely.
Tools/Options/Calculations (tab). Click on Earned Value and set to
Physical%Complete.

Now, for EVERY task make sure the EV option is set to Physical%Complete.
This is available by selecting ALL tasks and changing from the Advanced Tab
of the Multiple Task Inoformation Dialog Box. You can also insert the EV
Type column.

One more thing, you must have costed resources and a baseline for this to
work properly.

Hi Jim

Thanks for the input. I will try it.

We are presently using MSP 2007 for only scheduling and not for costing /
EVM. We want to know the actual % progress only and not the costs. It seems,
we can use Physical % complete and % complete only for EV calculations, but
we want to use the Physical % complete for updating and reporting the actual
% progress. For example, there are 4 taks under a summary task and 2 get 100%
completed and the other two not started yet, I want the summary task showing
50%. Whether this is possible in MSP.

If you are not resource loaded, create a single resource "Worker1" at $1/hr
and load that against all nonsummary tasks. Baseline. Now Physical%Complete
will work.

Hi Jim,

I have done that but still the Physical % complete of the summary task is
not getting updated although all the tasks under that summary task are having
a 100% physical % complete.

3vikram.
