powerpoint crashes on launch

Ever since running a presentation the other day from someone else's thumb drive, I haven't been able to re-open ppt. As its trying to launch, I notice its trying to open that very presentation (the last one that was open before I closed it last) and I have a hunch that there's something in that file that is crashing the app. Can I launch it without it opening that last opened file?

I've repaired permissions. Restarted. A couple times.

I'm running:
10.7.4
MacBook Pro (few years old)
