Problem with Office Assistant

B

Bill Helbron

Following a re-installation of Office 2000 after receiving a new HD, I've
noticed that every time I load Word or Excel, I receive an "Office Assistant"
window that says "There was a problem starting Office Assistant. Would you like
to try reinstalling it?" When I selected "Yes" and went through the Repair
procedure, it said that everything went normally. However, when I tried to open
Word and Excel again, the same "Office Assistant" window and message appeared.
Suggestions, please!

Thanks for your reply! I followed the instructions outlined in 221354 but I must
have more of an installation problem than I originally thought. When I open Word
or Excel, I still get the same message as before. If it helps, when I installed
Office Professional 2000, the process never asked me to install Disc 2. I just
thought this was because I didn't plan to use Powerpoint and Outlook. Another
thing: When I initially click on the Word icon to open, I always get a window
that says "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office Professional
2000". It "configures", then opens Word normally, but I never got that window
before.

Hi, Bill. I don't think the Disk 1 installer automatically prompts you
to insert Disk 2, because not all versions of Office 2000 came with a
Disk 2. Insert Disk 2 into the CD-ROM drive and follow the setup
instructions on the screen. If you don't want the Disk 2 installer to
install "the usual", then choose a Custom installation, select only the
Office Assistant feature, and set this feature to "Run All From
Computer". For the second problem, see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=265194 "OFF2000: Windows Installer
Appears Every Time a Program Is Started".
