Problems emailing files

R

Rob

Whenever I try to send someone a file through email (either word or
powerpoint files) they are never able to open them. They get errors like the
file is not a recognized file or something like that. I tried emailing the
files to myself and I can't open them either. Yet I can open the file on my
harddrive just fine. What is going on and how do I fix it. I am running
Office XP.

Thanks in advance,

Are all the recipients using Outlook as well, or are they using Outlook
Express or some other program? (Outlook Express counts as a different
program). What is the exact text of the error message you're getting, and
do the files look like they've been attached properly when they're received
or are they in a funky file format?

Actually I am sending the files using outlook express. I do not know what
program they are using to receive their emails. But even if I email myself
the file through outlook express and then receive it through outlook express
it won't open. Looks like it is attached right and I have no problems
sending other files. Just can't send any office files (powerpoint, outlook,
excel, etc..). When I send the file and then try to open it, I get the
following error:

Powerpoint can't open the type of file represented by C:\Documents and
Settings\Robert Hatfield\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\Z8PFBPCE\Final Presentation.ppt.

I get this error whether I try to open it from the email or try to save it
to the harddrive and then open it. It doesn't matter. Obviously the path
listed in the error changes based on the file that I sent myself. But the
others that I send the files to get the same error.

Thanks for the help.

Ahh...in that case, this may be a question that is better asked in an
Outlook Express forum (assuming you don't get the answer you're looking for
here). If you're accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product
Support Services web interface, click
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx, then the following
sequence in the frame on the left: English | Windows | Outlook Express, then
choose your version of OE and the appropriate subgroup (for example, Outlook
Express 6 General). These steps may vary slightly if you choose a different
language in the list -- you'll have to search for the OE group for that
language if that's the case. Good luck!
