Project 2007 Pro: Problem with Task display, IDs, and WBS

I've opened a plan that I previously worked on, and Tasks are in the correct
position but the task ID number is wrong; in order 126,127,428,128. Other
task numbers are missing entirely; 317,319,320 (no 318). I am looking at a
project now that was correct when I saved it, but now that I open it some
tasks are are completely blank now, and some are mismatched in position vs
ID. I've verified that I don't have any filter applied, and haven't done any
sorting.

Also tasks seem to be indenting themselves to deeper WBS levels without me
touching it. It has gone completely wacko. I'll go work on one section of the
plan, insert or copy/paste a task, go to another section and it will change.
Tasks that were there but misnumbered, are now blank.

I have Options > View > "Show Outline Number" turned on so the WBS is
included in the task name. I inserted the WBS column in the tasklist, and
noticed that the numbering is not the same. No, I haven't done a sort "with
keep outline structure or permanently renumber tasks"

I read a post on TechNet about someone with a beta version of 2007
experiencing the exact same thing, but no solution was posted. I've never
seen this behaviour in 2003.

Please help salvage my weekend!! Fixing this is going to take days.

Indentation errors are usually caused by users outdenting a task further than
intended and it picks up more items than intended. Then, when you move or
indent tasks you have undesired consequences. Indentation was fixed in SP2
for P2003, but you are in 2007 so that is not going to apply.

Missing task numbers are usually indicative of external linking. You can
view these linked tasks: Tools/Options/View tab. Select the check boxes to
show external predecessors/successors.

Task Ordering. Hmmm. If you resort (Project/Sort/by ID) does that correct
the issue or does it make your structure a mess?

I'll go out on a limb (I am not that busy today). If the file is relative
small, send it to jeaksel at yahoo dot com and I'll take a *quick* peek.
