Check your printer and graphics drivers, they need to be updated to XP.
Publisher is especially sensitive to printer drivers.

Mary,
I almost thought that it was fixed! I updated printer drivers, opened the
..pub, I could see the pages and text, looked like it was fixed, the the error
popped up " Publisher 2000 version 6.0 has encountered problems and neeeds to
close, we're sorry for the inconvenience". :( I should note that I updated
my graphics drivers after updating to WXP. Any other thoughts? TIA

Mary,

Now it's getting really strange. Tried turning off pictures and special
characters, no change still shut down Publisher. Checked the error report
details and "Hpbafd32.dll" was not in it. Searched for that dll and it's not
on my PC. Updated video drivers again, still shut down publisher. Started in

The new files still shut down publisher. I tried opening one of the old files

file and tried opening again. Shut down :( Now I'm really confused. Any
other options? I can still work on them on the W2K machine but hey, I like to

If it starts okay in safe mode, it very well could be the printer driver... It
is always better to completely uninstall a driver before

Mary,

Wel I have succes to a point. After following your advice and purging all
the printer files and re-installing the printer the document opens.... If I
open it through "my documents", if I start publisher then open it from there
it closes. What's up with that? It also is strange that I can open it, edit
it and print it but after I save and close it the "Publisher has encountered
a problem and needs to close" error pops up after the document is closed!
Thanks,

Hey Tom,
Have you tried a detect and repair? It is found under help. Do you have more
than one printer? Have you installed Publisher's Imagesetter? Select a different
printer as default, see if your documents open.

Mary,
I almost thought that it was fixed! I updated printer drivers,
opened
the
.pub, I could see the pages and text, looked like it was fixed, the
the
error
popped up " Publisher 2000 version 6.0 has encountered problems and
neeeds
to
close, we're sorry for the inconvenience". :( I should note that I
updated
my graphics drivers after updating to WXP. Any other thoughts? TIA

:

Check your printer and graphics drivers, they need to be updated to
XP.
Publisher is especially sensitive to printer drivers.

I have some files created in Publisher 2000 on a PC with

Since
upgrading to W XP they will not open. I can open them on a PC
with W

fine.
Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

Detect and repair was the first thing I tried. There is only 1 printer on
this PC. I could share another printer and try that. I'm not sure what
"Imagesetter" is. As I said at least I can open through "my documents".

Hey Tom,
Have you tried a detect and repair? It is found under help. Do you have more
than one printer? Have you installed Publisher's Imagesetter? Select a different
printer as default, see if your documents open.

Mary,

Wel I have succes to a point. After following your advice and purging all
the printer files and re-installing the printer the document opens.... If I
open it through "my documents", if I start publisher then open it from
there
it closes. What's up with that? It also is strange that I can open it, edit
it and print it but after I save and close it the "Publisher has
encountered
a problem and needs to close" error pops up after the document is closed!
Thanks,

:

If it starts okay in safe mode, it very well could be the printer
driver...
It
is always better to completely uninstall a driver before
installing/re-installing.

Mary,

Now it's getting really strange. Tried turning off pictures and special
characters, no change still shut down Publisher. Checked the error
report
details and "Hpbafd32.dll" was not in it. Searched for that dll and it's
not
on my PC. Updated video drivers again, still shut down publisher.
Started
in
safe mode and the .pubs opened! Saved as a new file and restarted
normally.
The new files still shut down publisher. I tried opening one of the old
files
and it opened!! Pictures were there and special characters too. Saved
the
file and tried opening again. Shut down :( Now I'm really confused. Any
other options? I can still work on them on the W2K machine but hey, I
like
to
fix things if I can TIA
