Publisher 2003 printer error

Publisher 2003 - each time I go to print a newly created document I get an
error message "A printer has not been installed on the system". If I save
the document and reboot it will then print out. This only applies to
Publisher. All other programs are fine and there isn't a problem with the
printer. Any ideas? It will happily print out any previously saved document
but if any alteration is made it won't.
