Publisher 2003 "tracking" problem...

I'm very familiar with Publisher, but I have encountered a problem I
can't solve.

When I highlight some text, and go to FORMAT, and then CHARACTER
SPACING,....

If I set it to 110%, press APPLY and then close the window, when I
highlight the same text and go back into Character Spacing, it has
changed to 109.1%. This applies for all even numbers...for instance, if
I set 135%, it will change to 134.1%. It seem to drop by .9% in each case.

I have never had this problem before. Anyone got any ideas???
Thanks.

I do believe this is the way it is... I tried this on Publisher 98 and 2000 and the
110% stuck, but it didn't on 2003. Publisher 97 and below had an entirely different
way of character spacing.

I wonder if it makes any difference? If you input 111% it will default to 110.1 and
stick, if you input 10.5 it will stick.

I think you may be right. I've checked further. It appears, as you
indicated, that the only time the default changes is when the percentage
is exactly a whole number, like 110 or 111 or 333. When you add .1
through .9 the setting will remain true. I see no reason for this. Nor
can I find anything in the MS knowledge base that addresses this quirk.
Also, Google has not served me on this problem - if it IS a problem. I
wish I could "schmooze" MS into talking to me about this issue without
having to pay for it. I thinks it's an item they should have addressed
somewhere.
Thanks for your input, Mary.
