Publisher 2003

I have created a document including text, clip art and photos. I used design
checker to get a clean document, then saved it and closed the program. When
I try to open it again, I get a message saying Publisher cannot open file!.
No reason or anything. It happens time and time again. I have to uninstall
and reinstall office to get it to work at all, and then it is only for a
short time. It is maddening. Can anyone help?

Do you have Norton?

That question seems to come up a lot here.

I think I've found yet ANOTHER reason to convince me that my
abandoning anything "Norton" over the years was the correct choice.

I can remember when "Norton" was a trusted name in system utilities.

That was a looooooooooooooooong time ago.

Toots, More times than not when a Publisher file goes bad it is an image
corruption.

Disable whatever anti-virus software you have, will the file open? Have you
tried opening in safe mode? Is your printer driver current?

I have used Norton forever on my older computer. Never had one minute's problem.
I did have the Office Plug-in disabled. I had one poster have the same problem
with McAfee software, it was the script blocking feature.

I am now using Microsoft's One Care.

I tried shutting off my anti-virus and that didn't work. My printer driver
is current and I'm not sure what good opening in safe mode would do. Can you
tell me? I also don't think the document is corrupted because it has
happened to more than one document and I have e-mailed these documents to
others and they are able to open them...no problem. Would you have any idea
whether the factory-installed software for Office would have been installed
with the discs they sent with my computer. My thinking is that if that is
so, perhaps the program is corrupt in some manner. What do you think?

What and where is the script blocking feature and how do I disable Office
Plug-in and script blocking.

Have you tried a detect & repair? It is found under help. Or go to the Control
Panel, open the Add or Remove Programs, scroll down to Office, click change.

When you start your computer in safe mode none of the device drivers are loaded.
If the file opens it can mean your printer or graphics driver may need updating.
