Publisher "Cannot open file from another version" - any ideas ?

I have been using Publisher to design some posters for a friend. Recently she
sent me, via email, a file that was created on her computer. When I have
tried to open it I get the error message "Cannot open file from another
version". This has also occurred when the same file was sent to another close
associate of mine. Any ideas on what is happening, and is there a way to get
round the problem

What version of Publisher are you using?

What version of Publisher is your friend using?

Thanks for the quick response, for your information I am using Publisher
2000 and my friend has Publisher 2003 - 2003(11.6565.6568)SP2 'part of
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003

Your friend will have to Save As a Publisher 2000 file. Formatting will be
lost.

Using matched versions of Publisher (the same version on each machine up to
Publisher 2000, then one of Publisher 2002, 2003 , or 2007) is very
advisable.
