Publisher installation problem

I'm trying to upgrade my Publisher 2000 to Publisher
2003. Early in the install process I'm told that
my "m4561403.cab" file is missing and would I like to
browse for it. When I try to browse it locks up!! I got
into dos and looked for the file, and it's on the cd!! I
can't get "my computer" nor "windows explorer" to search
the cd. PLEASE HELPPPPPPPPPP!!!

Which version of Windows are you using? You mention DOS but there is no DOS
in Windows XPor 2000. (There is a DOS emulator - not quite the same thing.)
Pub 2003 REQUIRES XP or 2000 SP3.

The installation gets to the point of waiting for cabinets
to be cached to local installation source. Then a wait of
about 20 minutes (I have a pretty fast computer) and then
the error message:
Installation error: file not found
A required installation file m4561403.cab could not be
found
Original installation source required: if you installed
ms office publisher 2003 from a cd please insert your cd.
If you installed ms office publisher 2003 over your
computer network, please browse to te installation source
on your network. Once you have located your installation
source click ok.
If I hit browse the cd drive stops responding and I must
cancel the installation. If I hit ok we go back to the
error message after a long wait. Of course, I have the
2003 cd in the drive when I hit ok, and I've checked the
cd and the file IS on it!!

Yes, this is a real stumper! I tried to email a question
to ms support, but you must have a product id number and
all I have is the key number. Apparently you don't know
the product id number until the product is installed. But
how do you get that number when the product WON'T
install... Another classic ms conundrum!! I knew I
should have bought Pagemaker...

Well, since I stumped this forum, I called microsoft
support and spent over an hour on the phone with a very
helpful guy who finally decided I had a bad cd. They're
sending me a new one. Shockingly good customer service
for microsoft!!

Poor guy, that is the end of his job for being so helpful.
You would have been his nightmare for the day!!!

I seriously hope that fixes your problem.
