Hi Again:
Howdy.
Second question: I have published our site using our
computer at home. What should I do if I publish to the
same site from my computer at the office? How do I
ensure that all three computers have the same versions
of the website, no matter what computer changes were
published from?
This can be very tricky. So, the first rule is to keep
things simple. For example, don't keep a lot of
overlapping, half-finished work both at home and at work.
The next advise is to get very familiar with the concept
of "Files In Conflict". FrontPage reports this situation
whenever it determines that a file on the destination
computer has a different datestamp than it had when you
started modifying a page. Here's how this can happen.
Monday: All three sites are identical.
Tuesday: You change the whatever.htm file at home,
and publish it.
Wednesday: You change the whatever.htm file at work,
and try to publish it.
FrontPage reports a conflict because it sees that
the "live" site has a different date (Tuesday) than
the "work" site last recorded for that file (Monday).
So, if you publish the file you changed at work on
Wednesday, you'll overwrite the changes you made from home
on Tuesday.
When these situations come up, you'll need to decide
whether to overwrite the destination file or not. This is
because only you know whether you've reconciled all
changes made anywhere.
