Q: SP1 no longer 'syncs' PocketPC Notes

OneNote Gurus:

Just ran into a problem with ON SP1.

A few days ago, I upgraded my Toshiba e805 PocketPC to Windows Mobile
2003 Second Edition (it's the only PPC that has had the upgrade made
available to its owners).

Now I can't 'sync' (I know it's one way) my PPC notes to OneNote, a
capability I have *truly* enjoyed with the latest ON build.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but traditionally,
whenever you have to hard-reset your PocketPC (required for
upgrading/flashing a new OS), you have to create a new PocketPC
'partnership' on the Desktop. I deleted my old Partnership to see if
that solved the problems, but I still can't sync any notes. The menu
item is not grayed out and is still available... but alas, it does
nothing.

Any ideas on what this might be and how I can get ON to sync the PPC
notes again? Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Look in your ON folder hierarchy for another "Copied
PocketPC notes" file. A few times while I was playing
with the import feature in SP1, it created another file,
and I didn't realize it at first until I looked at the
contents of "My Notebook" in Explorer.

Otherwise, just to confirm the data you gave:

After upgrading the OS on your PPC device, you hard-reset
the button and then deleted/recreated your partnership?

Are all other datta types synching OK from within
ActiveSync? Are you running the latest version of
ActiveSync (3.7.1)?

Can you verify that correct and expected synchronization
occurs with your Outlook Notes between Outlook and your
PPC?

Erik:

Thanks for the follow-up. I found what it was. I had decided -- upon
last hard reset -- to keep any new 'Notes' created on the PocketPC in
non-volatile FlashROM.

I remembered that I had this problem before when I updated to ON SP1.
All I had to do was set the note location flag in the PocketPC to
'Main Memory' (i.e., the standard 'My Documents' folder) and voila!
All my notes could be imported into ON.

Thanks again for helping me out.

Do you have the problem synchronizing Outlook Notes as
well if the PPC Notes are not stored on the main storage?

It's weird that ON would care...

Erik:

You bet. Same problem occurs. ON will not "find" any notes (and
therefore not import them) if those notes (.pwi files) are located in
internal/FlashROM storage.

Move them to Main Memory and it works without a hitch.

Hope this helps.
