Query by form

I am using Access 2003
On the help menu I picked an article "How to use the query by form (QBF)
technique". Based on the Northwind Db, I created the form, the query and
macro as instructed. But it did not work correctly. #6 item says to open
the form and in the customer ID field enter "AROUT" and search. This gave me
all the records in the DB - because there is no record by that name. #2 - I
copied one of the names from the Db and entered that name in the customer ID
- again that did not work - gave me all 800+ records. I went back to verify
my query. Where as instructed I typed the full criteria on one line, it is
now split up into two lines for each criteria I put in. Plus there are extra
fields that i did not add that look like they came from the criteria. I
re-did everything, but to no avail. Nothing worked as it should have.

Is there a fix for this or can you point me to another article that deals
with this subject? What I am trying to get at is having a user open a form
and from a drop down list, pick his name and only the records that belong to
him will appear. Am I looking at the right thing or should I be looking
elsewhere?

thank you - aurora
