question about dates

Hi folks,

We have a bit of a dilema and I wanted to check with the group to see
if anyone else had this problem.

We have entered a task and two subtasks with a task going from Tuesday
through Friday and instead of 4 days it is saying 3.75 days. Why is
this off?

Ellen,
Apparently you are referring to the data you see in the Duration field.
The value shown in the Duration field is determined by the setting of
Hours per day under Tools/Options/Calendar. If you are using the normal
default calendar (i.e. 8/5) then the hours per day setting should also
be 8 hours per day. My guess is that this value is something greater
than 8. OR, the working times under Tools/Change Working Time has been
altered such that it does not total up to 8 hours per day. OR, the
resource assigned to the task has a different calendar than the project
or task calendar.

There are several setting that must be coordinated to produce the
correct time results. You might want to go to our MVP website at,
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm, and take a look at FAQ 5 - Default
Working Hours.

You could also go to Tools/Options/View and change the setting to
display the date and time. That way you can see when during the normal
working day the task is scheduled to start and when it is scheduled to
finish.

Hope this helps.

A task will vary in duration depending on resource units assigned. It is
possible you have resources assigned to more than 8 hours total work in a
given day? Also, if a predecessor to these tasks takes a fractional portion
of a day, then the successor tasks will not run from 8AM until 5PM which can
also show the same issue.

I think I'd need a little more information to really help you. Such as
resources assigned and their assigned %, if the task is fixed units, fixed
work, or fixed duration. Are there predecessors and do they stop at 5PM on
the day before?
