Incorrect finish date being calculated for a task

Hi I am a relative newcomer with Project so I apologise if this is a
basic question......

Essentially I have added a new task to a completely fresh project plan.
The task is to start on 4th May 2009 and is to run for 25 days. The
calendar is set up so that the working day is 09:00 to 17:00 and is 7
hours long for 5 days per week. Project is calculating the end date as
Tuesday 2nd June when it should actually be Friday 5th June (25 days
after the start). If I change the end date manually to 5th June it tells
me the duartion is actually 28.43 days and not 25 which doesn't make
sense.

Can anyone advise what I need to do to have the task running for 25
days with an end date of 5th June?

Thanks

Look in two places.

1. Tools/Change Working Time....
Make sure the calendar has default work hours 9-5 with an hour for lunch,
this will give you 7 hours per day. The work hours need to be set for all
work days. In P2003 you can do this by selecting the columns M-F and
changing work hours on the right side

For P2007, it is similar, Tools/Change Working Time. In the bottom of the
window give the exeption a name. Key a start/finish date (1/1/2000 --
12/31/2049) Click Details then change the wlorking time

2. Next, Tools/Options... pull the calendar tab. Change your default
start/finish times and hours per day.

Many thanks for your response Jim this has indeed resolved my issue. I
thought setting the default options in the calendar for 9 to 5 with 7
hours working time would be enough. Didn't realise that it wouldn't
apply that default to the working hours.

Thanks again
