Question - Insert files

I donwloaded the trial version today to try. Some things I copied & pasted
from Word (one page docs) with no problems and very little editing. Some of
the larger files (such as bylaws), didn't really work right and I didn't want
to do a lot of editing. I had seen something in a demo about inserting files
as printouts. I did that and it inserted the file & formated it so it would
print correctly.

Here's my question. Are the items I inserted now linked to the original
Word files? Some files such as a Unit officer & chairman roster only usually
change yearly and I do have the Word templates for future years already in
place. Can I delete the Word file once I have inserted it this way?

I was wondering if I could edit the information inserted this way and I just
answered that question. It wouldn't let me.

My thinking is that once the year is over, you wouldn't need to change this
information and it would only be stored for archive purposes (a print out is
also stored in a binder with the minutes for the year).....so I would hope to
be able to delete the Word file and just have it left in OneNote. Is this
possible?

When you drag your files into OneNote, if just one you will be asked
if you want to link, copy or copy and generate a printout.
If you drag a lots of files, they will be copied.

In every way you insert the file, you will be able to edit it: just
double click on it.
The printout, of course, is not editable.

Of course you can delete the file and preserve the printout.
However, I would not do so because the printout has not so good
quality and is not so practical if needed to be sent by mail or
printed.

Hi Sid,

Thanks for the info. I hadn't tried to drag & drop so I didn't realize it
would give you those options. So if I drag and drop and select copy, it
copies the original file and I could then delete the original file? Just
want to be sure that I'm understanding correctly.

Yeah, if you chose to copy, it copied the files.

Just to make you feeling more sure: try copying the file in OneNote,
than rename or put in the recycle bin the file. Then open it in
OneNote. If it works you are ok, if not you can undelete the file.
I've done that way the first time.

Hi Sid,

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try. Right now I just wanted to know if
it was possible. I don't want to delete anything until I decide if I'm
buying the program or not. It definately looks interesting so far and I do
think it will make things a little easier.
