Quit Outlook and revert to Yahoo

I set up outlook 2003 with my SBC Yahoo account. Before I realized it, all my
e-mails from yahoo (615) were downloaded to my computer and removed from the
Yahoo server. Is there any way to transfer them back to the server? Two
reasons:
1) I'm afraid I may not have enough space on my computer plus the server is
a safer place to store older e-mails for reference. If I had used Outlook in
the past, set up as it is now, I would have lost everything when my hard
drive crashed in January. I just got it back and decided to try outlook, but
I'm not sure I'm going to like it;
2) I access my e-mail from other places other than my personal computer

AFAIK there's no way you can send them back to your mailbox at Yahoo server.
You should've ticked Internet Mail settings that says something like "Leave
a copy of messages on the server".

The server isn't necessarily a safer place to store the messages. If you
had had a data backup plan in place when your HD crashed, then the loss
would have been minimal. I copy my Outlook mail storage to an external HD
weekly, and periodically make CD backups.

In your settings for the Yahoo! Mail account, under More Settings, Advanced,
set it to leave a copy of messages on the server. This is not the ideal way
to manage accessing e-mail from multiple computers, but it will do.

You could forward them all back to your SBC mail address. All the messages
will come from you, of course, instead of the original senders, but if you
forward them as attachments you'll have the entire original messages
available.

An alternative, if you want them online somewhere is to create a Google Mail
account for yourself and access it using an IMAP account. You'd them be
able to move all of the downloaded messages to the IMAP server and retain
the messages as they originally arrived.

You can export your contacts from the Yahoo web site to a CSV file and then
import that into Outlook. Log into your SBC Yahoo account and select the
Contacts tab. You should see three links at the right above the contact
list: "Sync", "Import/Export", and "Options". Click "Import/Export".
Scroll down to the "Export" section and click the "Export Now" button just
to the right of the words "Microsoft Outlook". You can also use the fourth
export option, which is "vCard Zip of .VCF Files", which gives you a zip
file with one VCF file per contact and you can then unzip the file and drag
each of those VCF files to Outlook's Contacts folder.

4) My calander with all appointments and special dates is also on the SBC
Yahoo server.

Click the Calendar tab and you'll see a "Sync" link above the calendar on
the right. Install Yahoo AutoSync, which claims to be able to sync with
Outlook. I haven't tried it, but I believe I've read posts from others who
have.

It would be somewhat tedious but you could forward those emails to yourself
after you changed your settings to leave the emails on your Yahoo account.

Another thing you could consider would be to buy a USB external hard drive.
They are not expensive and hold lots of back up material. You could use it
for all your back up needs. I just Googled "cheap USB hard drives" and got
over 14,000 hits. One there was a 250 GB USB drive for just under $50.
That works quite well and they work about as fast as your internal hard
drive.

I tested the forward as attachment method yesterday, hoping I could drag and
drop them off the message in the new yahoo interface. it converts them to
inline messages.
