Rejected Task Not Updated

I am currently testing MSP 2002 Professional prior to
going live and I have encountered something I am puzzled
about.

I have created a project as a project manager, loaded a
resource in the team member rold. The team member rejects
the task and notification is properly sent to the project
manager. When I (as project manager) accept the
rejection, I update the project and it brings me into the
actual project with the message box saying the project has
been updated and would I like to save the changes. I
click affirmative, but the project still has the task and
the hours for the resource. Shouldn't these be removed or
altered with the update? I have reviewed the security and
believe it to be appropriate. Can anyone help me with
