"Remaining Work" grey out (disable)

We are using PWA 2007 and the "remaining work" fiels is grey out. Does
anybody know how to enable this field? The reason we would like to enable it
is so we could close a given task. Is there any other prefer method to
complete a task other than changing "remaining work to zero".

Where in PWA is it greyed out? In the My Timesheet page or the My Tasks
page? If you are talking about the My Timesheet page, then it is disabled
by default unless your Project Server administrator selects the "Time entry
by Timesheet only" option on the Task Settings and Display page in PWA.
Microsoft's assumption is that if you have the "Time entry by Timesheet
only" option selected, then team members must enter all progress in the My
Timesheet page and import the progress into the My Tasks page. And with
this option selected, the Remaining Work field is disabled on the My Tasks
page, therefore, it must be enabled on the My Timesheet page so that team
members can adjust this value on tasks as needed. Hope this helps.
