Remove fixed start date from a task, i.e. let it float

D

David

I have entered a fixed start date for a task. The task is linked to a
predecessor, and its dependency is f-t-s. However, because the start date is
fixed, the task start does not move as its predecessor moves.

How can I remove the fixed start date and allow it to float with its
predecessor?

Hi David,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Go to Project/Task Information/Advanced tab and reset the Constraint type to
As Soon As Possible, which, in effect, removes the constraint.
Incidentally, you shouldn't enter dates other than the project start, in
favour of Durations and logic links. Let project do what it was designed
for - calculating the dates. If you enter dates, constraints will
automatically be created which, as you have experienced, restrict the
flexibility of your project.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
