Resource overallocation

There is an overallocation problem with my Resource Scheduling.
I had split my window into 2 with Resource Usage view at the top and the
Resource allocation view at the bottom.
While attempting to eliminate overallocation I found 2 ways.
One is just pushing the task in the lower pane.
The other is entering elapsed duration.
I dont know what elapsed duration mean?
Is there a differnece between pushing the Start date of the task and
entering elapsed duration?
If there is, what is the difference?

By pushing I assume you mean click and drag? This sets a constraining date
which means you have to manually update this task from now on. Much better
is to add a link to the task from the previous task the resource is working
on. Be sure to add a note to explain why the link is there.

Elapsed duration is a duration that ignores your project's calendar. For
example 7d is 7 working days which would be Monday thru to Wednesday of the
following week assuming no work on Sat and Sun. 7ed is 7 days of 24 hours
working or non-working. It would start Mon 8:00 and finish Mon 7:59 the
following week.
