retrieve deleted files

I erased a file about 10 days ago. I am on XP. I tried setting my date back
11 & 12 days. I still can't find the file and it is not in the trash can. I
have tried to for through norton to retrieve the files and none come up.

The file is most likely been over written and would not be recoverable.
