shortcuts file (.fav)

Hi

I apparently have a problem with my shortcuts file (.fav).

I had an email application on my PC (windows 2000 prof) called "Incredimail"
on a trail basis. When I decided not to keep it and revert to Outlook 2003,
I get the following
messages;

When I open Outlook:

"an error occurred in the folder shortcuts file (.fav) Outlook will recreate
the default folder shortcuts"

When I click OK - I get:

"Outlook could not save the updated folder shortcut information. Check to
make sure there is sufficient disk space and that the file C:\documents and
settings\Local Settings\Application Data..." is not marked read-only. (I
assume that points to 'outlook.pst' and it is not marked read only) Another
attempt to save will be made after the next change or when you exit."

Then when I exit outlook:

"Outlook could not save the updated folder shortcut information. Check to
make sure there is sufficient disk space and that the file C:\documents and
settings\Local Settings\Application Data..." is not marked read-only. All
changes made during this session will be lost"

Whilst I can still send and receive email - this is a nuisance - Can anyone
help ?

Many thanks

Garry Kennedy

We get that message quite often and the path below points to a file with
extension FAV and not pst. Maybe you should go to that folder and see if the
FAV is still there and what permissions it has.

In our company the solution nowadays is to delete whole profile folder in
C-disk, but earlier it was enough to set the permissions straight.

There's also a switch that recreates Outlook bar. Write it in Start-Run
outlook.exe /resetoutlookbar and press enter.
I'm not sure if it will work on this one but maybe you can try. It puts
Outlook bar back to default settings.

1) Outlook 2003 does not use the FAV file - older versions did and if you
upgraded you can delete it.
2) resetoutlookbar is for older versions of Outlook - Outlook 2003 uses
resetnavpane (http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/commandlines.htm). This has
the same effect as deleting the XML file in the folder where the FAV is.

I would delete or rename the XML file and see if it helps.

Oops, it seems I didn't read carefully enough...it was Outlook 2003. Sorry
for the wrong information.
