Still can't load Publisher

M

Milo

Dear "(e-mail address removed)" and John G,

I've obviously confused you both by using the word "disk"
to refer to the CD-ROM that Office came on. Perhaps it's
regional to refer to a CD as a "disk" (as in, "Load disks
1 thru 3 of MSOffice), but I apologize for the confusion
it caused you both, thinking I meant "hard disk".

This morning, I took the advice
of "(e-mail address removed)" and upgraded to SR-3.
This did indeed load some DLLs to my hard drive, but as
you can see in this link:
http://www.improventures.com/publisher/searchresults.htm
the file in question was not loaded to my hard drive.

Just the same, I tried to load Publisher again and got the
same error box, which you can now see at:
http://www.improventures.com/publisher/errormessage.htm

Let me restate the problem, clarifying that CD vs. Hard-
drive point:
____________________________________________________

I loaded Publisher 2000 (on the second CD-ROM of
Office2000) onto my XP laptop with no problem.

But when I repeatedly try to load Publisher onto my new XP
desktop from the same set of CD-ROMs, it reports an error
reading a DLL on the CD-ROM. This DLL is called
MDT2DBUI.DLL.

The error it gave me is viewable at :
http://www.improventures.com/publisher/errormessage.htm
It gives the location where this file should have been
found and accessed on the CD-ROM.

I used Windows Explorer to look at the CD-ROM and I can
see that the file is right where the error message says
it's supposed to be. (webpage above also shows this)

At the suggestion of "(e-mail address removed)" in
these postings, I looked to see if the file already exists
somewhere on my hard drive. It does not and was not added
even when I upgraded to SR-3 today.

MSWord, Excel, Access, etc all loaded just fine in both.
It's only Publisher that's acting up.

Because I confused both of you with the original note and
because this one is getting so many layers deep, I'm going
to repost the info above as a new note with the name
Milo. Thanks again for your help and please reply to me
there.
I'm going to repost

This repost was unnecessary. Please don't do this again - it does not
matter that threads get many replies deep (and I didn't class that thread as
deep at all compared to some I've seen)

I'm a little embarrassed, Ed. This note was never
supposed to be published -- it was, as you could see,
intended for only the two men who'd been trying to help me
before. As soon as I saw it had published somehow, i
wished I could delete it, but could not (if there's a way,
please tell me!)

As for the number of levels deep, you're right it wasn't
THAT many, but several of them were dedicated to my
misstating something in the original note -- a waste of
time for other helpers to have to sift through that. That
was the reason I tried to repost once with a more
accurately described situation

Yet, as you pointed out, it posted that update TWICE and
I'm not sure how I did that -- but I promise it was not
intentional.

Again, my apologies for appearing to take advantage of the
newsgroup!
