Strange happenings in Word after 2003 upgrade

After upgrading to Office 2003, a couple of strange things are happenin
in Word, specifically:

1) When I double click to open a Word file, Word opens, but the fil
won't until I open it using File/Open.
2) Once a file is open in Word, I am unable to click to select text, o
use any right-click functionality.

I was having similar problems in Outlook, but that was due to usin
Word as the default Email editor - once I turned this off, everythin
seemed to work without any problem.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office, adding mor
permissions to the Office key in the registr
(HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Office...), and I also tried adding myself a
a local administrator on that machine. No luck with any of thes
possible solutions.

Any solutions anyone out there would be greatly appreciated! Thank
very much

I did run the updates, and that didn't seem to fix this issue.

What did work was renaming my profile (C:\Documents and Settings\...)
and recreating it when logging in again. I had to import all of the
user preferences, favorites, etc., but it was better than putting up
with this weird error anymore!

Thanks for your suggestion.

I've seen profiles go wonky for no obvious reason. I once dealt with a
situation where a user could not send or receive email regardless of what
program they used until we gave them a fresh profile.
