subtotals of a date range.

Hi Project Experts,

I want to complete an analysis in which the amount of work on tasks in
a given daterange is calculated. When I apply the daterange filter,
the tasks from 1-jan-07 till 31-dec-07 are filtered correctly. However
the subtotals on the summary tasks show the amount of work for the
complete daterange of the projects!

e.g.

Summary Task 110h work
task 1 60h work start 1-oct-06 finish 1-dec-06
task 2 10h work start 1-feb-07 finish 1-apr-07
task 3 40h work start 1-may-07 finish 1-jul-07

When I apply the daterange filter for tasks in 2007, the summary task
still shows an amount of 110h work, where 50h was wanted, because
task1 in the example was completed in 2006.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Best regards, Henk

Hello Henk,

You may have better success with creating a custom group and applying the
group than by filtering. Create a custom group (Project > Group By > More
Groups, New). Try grouping by Start date and Define the interval by Month,
Quarter, or Year. This should group your tasks as well as subtotal the Work
by Group.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Henk,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I'm not surprised as the filter is just removing unwanted tasks. The
summary task is doing what it should in summarizing all the tasks under its
control. If it bothers you, just remove the summary from the filter.

How are you controlling those dates? You shouldn't type them in as this
will create constraints.

Hi all,

I have solved the question, with the answer of Julie. Many thanks.
After grouping bij startdate, I then grouped by project and then
filtering only summary tasks. This show me in a rough way the
information I needed.

I exported the data to Excel to do some custom calculations with pivot
tables.

@ Mike, I just needed the summary taks, so I could not filter them
out :) I always plan from the project start date and the other tasks
are linked.

Best Regards, Henk
