Task Owner vs Resource? Owner gets resourced!

I want to assign owners to deliverables like this

deliverable (owner)
- task 1 (resource)
- task 2 (resource)

I'm using the resource names column to put the information in. However, this
means the owner gets resourced for ALL the tasks below. What I want is any
parent tasks to have no resource usage. Anyway to do this or do I need
seperate resource and owner columns?
