Tasks Splitting on their own?

Hi- Read alot on here, but forst posted question. It's probably simple (I
hope), but I'm baffled.

I have a published plan that is being updated through Project Web Access by
the task resources. The plan was published in good order, with all tasks
assigned "fixed Duration", non-effort driven.

Now, I have tasks that are split all over the place, and I cannot figure how
they got that way, or how to correct them! Some are split...time
entered...split again...time entered, etc.

I know that some of the resources are putting time in advance of the start
date, and also the constraints are having some play to it. I also tried
setting "as soon as possible' contraints, and also setting no constraints- to
no avail.

Resource levelling is not on, fyi.

any ideas? thanks in advance for your help!

Check your setting for Tools | Options | Schedule | Split in-progress tasks
