Tool bar not working, document locked for edit

I cannot edit nor even us my keyboard in Word XP. When I try to even create a new document, it gives me the message of "document locked for edit." I don't even know how to do this, so I don't know how my system got locked down. I pulled up edit unlock on the help menu, which told me to pull up VIEW then click on ONLINE. I could not do that as nothing is working on my toolbar. Help! Up to today.. it worked perfectly.

I have not activated yet; however, I was told that this problem was something that had to do with Office also being on my computer even though I have never used Office.
