Track Changes

I copied the contents of Document 1 (with track changes) to Document 2 (with track changes) and for some reason the deleted information from Document 1 reappeared in Document 2. I did not expect the deleted information to reappear. I was able to duplicate this error on subsequent tests with the same 2 documents. Could you let me know what I should do in the future to prevent this from happening?

Could it be that Document 2 is set to "Original" view on the Reviewing
toolbar, and Document 1 is set to "Final" view on the Reviewing toolbar?
Or vice versa?

I tried but haven't been able to reproduce it. Another thought
though... in Tools | Options | Save, is "Allow fast saves" checked? If
so, turn that off.

Fast saves is not on. I'm using Word 2002 (Document 2). What are you using? It is possible that Document 1 was created in another version (older). Would that matter

Word 2002 also. Way back when, in older versions of Word, allowing fast
saves would leave deleted text artifacts in documents that would pop up
unpredictably and inexplicably. I'm thinking that if your Document 1
was created with an older version that had fast saves enabled, this
could be why you're seeing this behavior. Maybe you could try re-saving
Document 1 with Word 2002, close Document 1, reopen it, and then see if
the deleted text still appears when you copy it to Document 2.
Otherwise I'm out of ideas, sorry.

It works backward from what you might think. It seems to work like
this:

If revision tracking is off in both the source document and the target
document when you copy and paste, then the revisions will show in the
result.

If revision tracking is on in the source document when you copy, you
get text as though all changes had been accepted.

If you use IncludeFile to import the document, you get the whole
thing; change tracking becomes enabled.

If you cut (or copy) and paste using the Spike, you get the whole
thing; change tracking becomes enabled.
