transferring data from Works to Office XP

When I try to transfer files from Works and Open
office.org to Word, the information appears as mumbo
jumbo. How do I get the information to appear in it's
original form? I have tried copy and paste but it doesn't
work for all files. It's the same with Excel.

Open Word, then use File, Open, select the works document and at the bottom
of the dialog under 'Files of Type' select the appropriate Works type and
then open the file.
