Trouble installing MS Office SB Accounting 2006

Joe

Can someone help me? here is my scenario and problem:

My office desktop (from Dell) had MS office and small biz accounting 2006
installed by the oem. Before I began working at this office, someone
uninstalled MS Office small biz accounting 2006 (poorly methinks). The folder
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business\Small Business Accounting" still
exists, however. there is no executable to initialize the program. Also, the
program does not appear in the "Add/Remove Programs" dialogue. Worse still,
the disks that originally came with this computer are either lost or
destroyed but are otherwise unavailable.

I do have a new license for MS Office Small Biz Accnt 2006 (from action
pack) and would like to test and evaluate its feasibility as a solution to my
clients. But when I try to install the program from the action pack disc,
installation terminates with a message that another version of the program
already exists and cannot continue installing the new version.

Am I missing something? If the program is on this computer, how do I run it?
If it isn't on this computer, why can't I install it? If the uninstall was
incomplete, how to complete it, or must I uninstall ALL of office to get a
fresh start? Grrrrrrrr

Thanks in advance for any help you might be.

Hi Joe,

You may want to contact Dell for a replacement CD if they didn't include a utility in Start=>Programs that allows you to create a
new CD from a stored image on the PC.

For Action Pack subscription help you may want to ask in the Partner newsgroups about differences from the retail packaging if any.

The folks in the Office Small Business Accounting Group (using link below) may be able to help as well.

To add to Bob's reply,
You could still post over in the SBA group but this may help you:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;897877
If this article helps in removing your oem SBA install, the AP subscription
of SBA should install ok.
Dell should supply you with a replacement cd as Bob mentioned.

Thanks guys. I did the uninstall completely, didnt help. As I was thinking
about it, however, I wondered: If small biz accntg was part of the Office
suite, then wouldn't the Office suite itself need to be removed (to elimate
any trace of the "previous version" of small biz accntg... I am going to try
uninstall/reinstall of the entire office suite. If that doesn't work I guess
I will try posting in the MPAN group to see if anyone else has had similiar
probs.
